Why it is built for Canada

Generic grant tools are built around American foundations and US 990 data. They miss the operational reality of Canadian funding: ISC and CIRNAC contribution agreements, FPCC language program streams, NRT Nation Building grants, federal proactive disclosure requirements, and bilingual submission workflows.

GrantWise is built around Canadian funder logic from the ground up — 8,495 Canadian grant programs, 996,000+ past award recipients from federal proactive disclosure data, 638 First Nations bands by ISC band number, and French-English bilingual support where it matters in actual submissions.

For Indigenous governments and nonprofits specifically, the platform treats ISC, CIRNAC, NRT, FPCC, and Indigenous-led foundations as their own distinct funding contexts — not a generic category. Distinction-based language, community consultation evidence, and UNDRIP-aligned framing are built into the writing tools.

About the founder

Built by Sohail Syed, who saw nonprofit staff drowning in spreadsheets while managing contribution agreement reporting across multiple funders. The tool started as a solution to a specific, recurring problem: after the award letter arrives, where does the work actually go? GrantWise is the answer.
